Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27605

Qutaibah narrated to us, Omar bin Ali Al-Muqaddami narrated to us, Al-Hajjaj narrated to us, on the authority of Makhoul, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman bin Muhayriz, he said, I asked Fadalah Ibn Ubaid, about hanging the hand around the neck of the thief according to the Sunnah. He said, “A thief was brought to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and it was cut off.” His hand, then he ordered it to be hung around his neck. Abu Issa said: This is a good, strange hadith. We do not know it except from the hadith of Omar bin Ali Al-Muqaddimi, on the authority of Al-Hajjaj bin Artat. Abd al-Rahman bin Muhairiz is the brother of Abdullah bin Muhairiz, a Levantine.
