Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28835

Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman told us, Muhammad bin Uyaynah told us, on the authority of Marwan bin Muawiyah Al-Fazari, on the authority of Kathir bin Abdullah, On the authority of his father, on the authority of his grandfather, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to Bilal ibn Al-Harith, “I know.” He said, “I do not know, O Messenger of God.” He said. “Know, O Bilal.” He said, “I do not know, O Messenger of God.” He said, “Whoever revives a Sunnah of mine that has died after me, will have a reward.” The likeness of whoever practices it without it diminishing their wages in the slightest, and whoever innovates a misguided innovation with which God and His Messenger are not pleased, there will be a parable for him. The sins of the one who commits them does not diminish the burden of the people at all.” Abu Issa said: This is a good hadith. And Muhammad bin Uyaynah is Masisi from Syria and Kathir bin Abdullah is the son of Amr bin Awf Al-Muzani.
