Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29974

Ahmad bin Al-Hasan told us, he said, Abdullah bin Maslamah told us, on the authority of Malik bin Anas, on the authority of Abdullah bin Dinar, on the authority of Ibn Umar, The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent a delegation and appointed Osama bin Zaid over them, but the people disputed his leadership, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “If you challenge his leadership, then you were challenging his father’s leadership before. By God, if he is worthy of the leadership, even if he is one of those whom He loves, people to me, and this is one of the most beloved people to me after him.” This is a hasan and authentic hadith. Ali bin Hajar narrated to us, he said, narrated to us Ismail bin Jafar, on the authority of Abdullah bin Dinar, on the authority of Ibn Omar, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, similar to the hadith of Malik bin Anas.
