Hadith #39852
وَعَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُ بِصِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ وَيَحُثُّنَا عَلَيْهِ وَيَتَعَاهَدُنَا عِنْدَه فَلَمَّا فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ لَمْ يَأْمُرْنَا وَلَمْ يَنْهَنَا عَنْهُ وَلَمْ يَتَعَاهَدْنَا عِنْدَه. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ
On the authority of Jabir bin Samurah, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to order fasting on the day of Ashura, and he urged us to do it, and we made agreements with him, so when it was made obligatory Ramadan he did not command us, nor did he forbid us from it, nor did we make a covenant with him.
