Hadith #40011
عَن عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: كَانَ قُرَيْشٌ وَمَنْ دَانَ دِينَهَا يَقِفُوْنَ بالمزْدَلفَةِ وَكَانُوا يُسمَّوْنَ الحُمْسَ فَكَانَ سَائِرَ الْعَرَبِ يَقِفُوْنَ بِعَرَفَةَ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ أَمَرَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى نَبِيَّه ﷺ أَنْ يَأْتِىَ عَرَفَاتٍ فَيَقِفُ بِهَا ثُمَّ يَفِيضُ مِنْهَا فَذٰلِكَ قَوْلُه عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: ﴿ثُمَّ أَفِيْضُوْا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ﴾. (مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ)
On the authority of Aisha, she said: The Quraysh and those who professed their religion used to stand at Muzdalifah, and they were called Al-Hums, so all the Arabs used to stand at Arafat, so when he came Islam God Almighty commanded His Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to go to Arafat and stop there and then to overflow from it. That is what God Almighty says: “Then Spread from where the people spread. (agreed)
