Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #44595

Yaqoub told us, my father told us, on the authority of Ibn Ishaq, Al-Zuhri told me, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abdullah bin Utba bin Masoud, on the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, said: I heard Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, saying when Abdullah bin Ubayy died The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was called to pray over him, so he stood up to him, and when he stood over him intending to pray, I turned until I stood in his chest and said, O Messenger God exalts the enemy of God, Abdullah bin Ubayy, who said, “On the day of such-and-such, and so-and-so,” and he enumerates its days. He and the Messenger said God, may God bless him and grant him peace, smiled until when I was too much for him, he said, “Get behind me, O Umar. Indeed, I was given the choice, so I chose, and it was said, ‘Ask forgiveness for them or Do not ask forgiveness for them. If you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, God will not forgive them if I knew that if I were to do more than seventy He was forgiven. I added. He said, then he prayed over him and walked with him, so he stood on his grave until he finished. He said, “It is astonishing to me and my boldness against the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” upon him and grant him peace, and God and His Messenger know best. He said, “By God, it was only a short time until these two verses were revealed: {And do not pray for None of them ever died, and do not stand over his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in God and His Messenger, and they died while they were disobedient. So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not pray. Upon him, he greeted a hypocrite after him, and he did not rise over his grave until God Almighty took him.
