Musnad Ahmad — Hadith #45816

Ibrahim bin Mahdi told us, Saleh bin Omar told us, on the authority of Mutarrif, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, on the authority of Yahya bin Talha bin Ubaid Allah, on the authority of his father, Omar, may God be pleased with him, saw him gloomy and said, “O Abu Muhammad, why are you so gloomy? Perhaps you have become displeased with the affairs of your cousin, meaning Abu Bakr.” He said, “No,” and he praised Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, but I heard the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, saying a word that no servant would say to someone. When he died, God relieved him of his distress and made his color shine, so nothing prevented me from asking him about it except the ability to handle it until he died and said Omar, may God be pleased with him, said to him, “I know it.” Talha said to him, “What is it?” Omar, may God be pleased with him, said to him, “Do you know a word that is greater than A word that his uncle commanded: “There is no god but God,” so Talha said, “By God, it is.”
