Al-Adab Al-Mufrad — Hadith #47205

Mutarrif bin Abdullah Abu Al-Musa’b narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Al-Mawwal narrated to us, on the authority of Muhammad bin Al-Munkadir, on the authority of Jabir He said: The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to teach us istikharah in matters, such as a surah from the Qur’an: If he is concerned about a matter, let him kneel. Two rak'ahs, then he says: O God, I seek guidance from You through Your knowledge, and I seek guidance from You through Your power, and I ask You of Your great bounty, for You are You are able and I am not able, and You know and I am not aware, and You are the Knower of the unseen. Oh God, if You know that this matter is better for me in my religion and my livelihood, And the outcome of my matter, or he said: In my present and future affairs, then ordain it for me, even if you know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my outcome, Or he said: My matter is immediate, my matter is for the future, so turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and ordain for me what is good wherever it may be, then he pleases me, and names his need.
