Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #49532

On the authority of Al-Harith bin Suwayd, he said: Abdullah bin Masoud narrated to us two hadiths: one of them on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the other on the authority of himself. He said: The believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain fearing that it might fall on him, while the immoral person sees his sins as a fly passing by. He lifted his nose and said with it like this, that is, with his hand, so he removed it from him and then said: I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying: “To God I rejoice in his repentance.” His faithful servant is a man who alighted in a destructive, turbid land. He had with him his mount, carrying his food and drink, so he laid down his head and slept soundly. Then he woke up and his mount had gone, so he went for it, and when the heat and thirst became too strong for him, or whatever God willed, he said: I will return to my place where I was. I was in it and I would sleep until I died. Then he placed his head on his forearm to die, then he woke up, and when his camel was with him on it, he provided him with food and drink. God is more happy with the repentance of the believing servant than this man with his camel and his provisions.” Muslim narrated the chain of transmission traceable to the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace. From him only, and Al-Bukhari narrated what was mentioned on Ibn Masoud as well
