Sunan ad-Darimi — Hadith #53674

Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, Al-Awza’i narrated to us, Al-Zuhri narrated to me, on the authority of Urwa, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: My mother underwent menstruation. Habiba bint Jahsh was seven years old, and she was the slave of Abd al-Rahman bin Awf. She complained about this to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said to her: “It is not menstruation, rather it is a vein, so when menstruation comes, give up prayer, and then... She has come back, so wash and pray.” Aisha said: She used to wash for every prayer, then pray. She said: And she used to sit in a corner. By her sister Zainab bint Jahsh, so red that the blood rose to the surface of the water.
