Ubayd Allah told us, on the authority of Israel, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Al-Harith, on the authority of Ali, who said: “The example of one who was given faith but was not given the Qur’an.” The likeness of a date, its taste is good, but it has no scent, and the likeness of one who was given the Qur’an but not given faith is like the bitter basil, its scent. good, but its taste is bitter, and the likeness of one who was given the Qur’an and faith is like a citrus fruit, its scent is good, and its taste is good, and the likeness of one who was not given “Faith and the Qur’an are like cocoa, its smell is evil, and its taste is evil.”
