حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فِي كَمْ أَخْتِمُ الْقُرْآنَ؟ قَالَ :" اخْتِمْهُ فِي شَهْرٍ "، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أنا أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " اخْتِمْهُ فِي خَمْسة وَعِشْرِينَ "، قُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " اخْتِمْهُ فِي عِشْرِينَ "، قُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " اخْتِمْهُ فِي خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ "، قُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " اخْتِمْهُ فِي عَشْرٍ "، قُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " اخْتِمْهُ فِي خَمْسٍ "، قُلْتُ : إِنِّي أُطِيقُ، قَالَ : " لَا "
Othman bin Muhammad told us, Jarir told us, on the authority of Mutarrif, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Abu Burdah, on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, he said: I said: O Messenger of God, how should I complete the Qur’an? He said: “Seal it within a month.” I said: O Messenger of God, I can bear it. He said: “Seal it within twenty-five.” I said: I am able. He said: “Conclude it in twenty.” I said: I am able. He said: “Conclude it in fifteen.” I said: I am able to complete it. He said: “Conclude it in ten.” I said: I am able. He said: “Conclude it in five.” I said: I am able. He said: “No.”
