Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26783

Abu Kurayb narrated to us, Waki’ narrated to us, Zakaria bin Ishaq Al-Makki narrated to us, Yahya bin Abdullah bin Saifi narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Ma`bad, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, sent Mu’adh to Yemen and said to him, “You are coming to a people who are People of the Book, so invite them.” To bear witness that there is no god but God and that I am the Messenger of God. If they obey that, then inform them that God has made five prayers obligatory upon them in today and tonight. If they obey that, then inform them that God has made it obligatory upon them to pay charity in their wealth, to be taken from their rich and give back to their poor. If they obey that, then beware of the generous amounts of their wealth and beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for it is not among them. And between God there is a veil.” And in the chapter on the authority of Al-Sanabihi, Abu Issa said: The hadith of Ibn Abbas is a good and authentic hadith. And Abu A temple belonging to Ibn Abbas’s client, whose name is Nafez.
