Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26814

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Makki bin Ibrahim narrated to us, and Yusuf bin Yaqoub al-Dhabi’i al-Sadusi narrated to us, they said, Bahz bin Hakim narrated to us, on the authority of his father, On the authority of his grandfather, he said, whenever the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was brought something, he would ask, “Is it charity or a gift?” So if they said He does not eat charity, but if they say it is a gift, he eats.
