Qutaibah narrated to us, Malik bin Anas narrated to us, on the authority of Abdullah bin Dinar, on the authority of Ibn Umar, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, was asked about eating lizards and he said, “No.” I eat it and do not deprive it.” He said, and on the authority of Omar, Abu Sa’id, Ibn Abbas, Thabit bin Wadi’ah, Jabir, and Abd. Al-Rahman Ibn Hasanah. Abu Issa said: This is a hasan and authentic hadith. The people of knowledge differed regarding eating lizard, and some permitted it. People of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and others, and some of them hated it. It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Abbas that he said: Eat lizards at the table. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, but the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, left it out of filth.
