حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي وَيَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَهْلَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ لِي عُثْمَانُ يَوْمَ الدَّارِ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَدْ عَهِدَ إِلَىَّ عَهْدًا فَأَنَا صَابِرٌ عَلَيْهِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ .
Sufyan bin Waki’ told us, he said: My father and Yahya bin Sa’id told us, on the authority of Ismail bin Abi Khaled, on the authority of Qais bin Abi Hazim, he said Abu Sahlah told me, he said: Othman said to me on the day of my arrival that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, had made a covenant with me, so I would be patient with it. Abu Sahlah said: Jesus, this is a good and authentic hadith. We do not know it except from the hadith of Ismail bin Abi Khaled.
