وكان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي ركعتين عندما نزل في سفر مع نحو ألف من أصحابه. فلما أدار وجهه إلينا رأينا عيناه تقطران من الدمع. ولما رأى الصحابة بكاءه بكوا. فأتاه عمر رضي الله عنه فقال: بأبي أنت يا رسول الله! ماذا حدث لك (لماذا تبكين؟) قال: "لما استأذنت الله أن أزور قبر أمي فأذن لي أن أزوره، ولكن استغفر لها". وعندما طلبت الإذن بالصلاة، لم يسمح لي. فأبكي عليه خوفاً من النار! ............" (أحمد 23003، مسلم 2303-2304، إلخ).
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs when he went down to a place on a journey with about a thousand companions. So when he turned his face towards us, we saw that his two eyes were dripping with tears. Seeing his cry, the Companions began to cry. Umar (RA) went to him and said, 'May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! what happened to you (Why are you crying?)' He said, "When I asked God for permission to visit my mother's grave, He gave me permission to visit it. But forgiveness for her." When I asked for permission to pray, he did not allow me. So I weep upon him in fear of hell!...........” (Ahmad 23003, Muslim 2303-2304, etc.)
