Hadith #38871
On the authority of Abu Hurairah, may God be pleased with him, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, addressed us and said: “O people, God has made Hajj obligatory upon you, so perform Hajj.” Then a man said: “I eat in general, O Messenger of God?” He remained silent, until he said it three times. Then the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “If I had said yes, it would have been obligatory, and you would not have been able.” Then he said: “Leave me alone.” I did not leave you, because those who came before you perished because of their many questions and their disagreement over Their prophets, so if I command you to do something, then do as much of it as you are able, and if I forbid you to do something, then abandon it.” ((Narrated by Muslim)).
