Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #40571

On his authority, he said: My uncle Anas ibn al-Nadr, may God be pleased with him, was absent from the battle of Badr, so he said: O Messenger of God, I was absent from the first fight in which I fought the polytheists. If God made me witness in fighting the polytheists, God would show me what I would do. Then when it was the day of Uhud, the Muslims were exposed, and he said, O God, I apologize to you for what these people did - meaning the Companions - and I disavow before you what these people did - meaning the polytheists - then he advanced and Saad bin Moaz greeted him and said: O Saad bin Moaz. Heaven and God Al-Nadr, I smell its scent without anyone! Saad said: I could not, O Messenger of God, what he did! Anas said: We found on him eighty-some sword wounds, or spear wounds, or arrow wounds, and we found him killed and mutilated by the polytheists, so no one recognized him except his sister by his fingertips. Anas said: We thought - or thought - that this verse was revealed about him and those like him: {Among the believers are men who are true to what they covenanted with God, but among them are those who have died.} To The end of it is ((Al-Ahzab 23)).
