Wahb bin Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, I heard Al-Amash, narrating on the authority of Amr bin Murrah, on the authority of Abu Al-Bakhtari, on the authority of Ali, may God be pleased with him. On his authority, he said: Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, said to the people: What do you see in the surplus we have of this money? Then the people said, O Prince Believers, we have distracted you from your family, your situation, and your trade, so he is yours. He said to me, “What do you say?” I said, “They advised against you.” He said to me, “Say.” So I said, “Why do you make your certainty an assumption?” He said, “To get out of what you said.” I said, “Yes, by God, I will get out of it.” Do you remember when the Prophet of God sent you? May God’s prayers and peace be upon him. You went to Al-Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib, may God be pleased with him, but he refused to give you his charity. There was an issue between you, so you told me to go with me. To the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and we found him drenched, so we returned, then we went to him and found him looking good. So you informed him of what he had done, and he said to you: Did you not know that the man’s uncle was like his father? And we mentioned to him what we saw of his anguish that day. The first is what we saw of his good spirits on the second day, and he said, “You came to me on the first day, and he remained with me.” Of the charity, two dinars, and that was what you saw from my good will, and they came to me today, and I have directed them to them, so that is what you saw from the goodness of my soul, and Omar said May God be pleased with him. You have spoken the truth, and by God, I will thank you first and last.
