Riyad as-Salihin — Hadith #46300

On the authority of Abu Ibrahim Abdullah bin Abi Awfa, may God be pleased with them both, he said: We walked with the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, while he was fasting, and when the sun set, he said to some of the people: “O so-and-so, come down and do good for us.” He said: “O Messenger of God, if it were evening?” He said: “Come down and do good for us.” He said: “You have a day.” He said: “Come down and do good for us.” “For us.” He said: So he descended and praised them, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, drank and then said: “If you see night approaching from here, the fasting person has broken his fast,” and he pointed towards the east with his hand.
