Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #52156

On the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, she said: The first thing that was revealed to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was the true vision in sleep. Then he was made to feel free to leave alone, and he would be alone in the cave of Hira and would perform his ritual acts in it - which is worship. The number of nights - before he goes to his family and gets provisions for that, then he returns to Khadija and gets provisions for the same amount of time. The truth came to him while he was in the cave of Hira, and the king came to him and said: Read. He said: “I am not a reader.” He said: “So he took me and covered me until I was exhausted, then He sent me and said: Read. So I said: I am not a reader, so he took me and covered me a second time until I had reached the effort, then he sent me and said: Read. I said: I am not a reader. So he took me and covered me for the third time until I had reached my strength, then he sent me and said: [Read in the name of your Lord who created. He created man From a leech. Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous. He who taught by the pen. He taught man what he did not know.] Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, brought it back, his heart trembling, so he went to Khadija and said: “Join me, give me a hug.” So they hugged him until His fear went away, so he said to Khadija and told her the news: “He has... I feared for myself.” Then Khadija said: No, by God, God will never disgrace you. Indeed, you will uphold the ties of kinship, believe the hadith, bear all things, and achieve success. Then Khadija went with him to Waraqah ibn Nawfal, Khadija’s cousin. So she said To him: O cousin, hear from your brother’s son. Waraqah said to him: O son of my brother, what do you see? So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, told him the news of what he saw. Waraqah said: This is the law that God sent down to Moses. I wish there was a log in it. I wish I were alive when he brings you out. Your people. Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Are they my directors?” He said: Yes, no man has ever brought anything like what you have brought, but return to me, and if your day overtakes me, I will support you with a strong victory. Then Waraqa did not respond until he died and the revelation ended.
