Sunan ad-Darimi — Hadith #55328

Muhammad ibn Yusuf narrated to us, on the authority of Israel, Abu Ishaq narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Bara’ ibn Azib, he said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, performed the Umrah. He gave the salutation in Dhul-Qi’dah, but the people of Mecca refused to let him enter Mecca until he judged them on the condition that he stay for three days, so when they wrote: This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, decreed. They said: Let us accept this. If we knew that you are the Messenger of God, we would not have prevented you at all. But you are Muhammad bin Abdullah. He said: “I am the Messenger of God, and I am Muhammad bin Abdullah.” So he said to Ali: “Erase: Muhammad is the Messenger of God,” and he said: “No, by God, I will never erase it.” So the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, took the letter, and he is not good at writing, so he wrote The position of the Messenger of God is what Muhammad bin Abdullah decreed upon him: that he not enter Mecca with any weapons except the sword in a bag, and that He does not expel from its people anyone who wants to follow him, and he does not prevent anyone from its companions who wants to reside there. When he entered it and the time had passed, they came to Ali and said: Tell your companion to leave us, for the time has passed.
