Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29359

Abd bin Humaid told us, Yazid bin Harun told us, Humaid Al-Tawil told us, on the authority of Anas bin Malik, that his uncle was absent from a fight, Badr and said, “I was absent from the beginning of a fight that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, fought against the polytheists. If God made me witness a fight against the polytheists, that they might see.” By God, what should I do? When it was the day of Uhud, the Muslims were exposed, and he said, O God, I disavow before you what these people have brought, meaning the polytheists. And I apologize to you for what these people, meaning his companions, are doing. Then he came forward and Sa’d met him and said, “My brother, I did not do this when I was with you.” He did not do so. I was able to do what he did. And there were found in it eighty-four blows with a sword, stabs with a spear, and hits with an arrow, and we used to say: About him and his companions the following was revealed: (And among them are those who have died, and among them are those who are waiting.) Yazid said, meaning this verse. He said: Abu Issa, this is a hadith Hassan Sahih. His uncle’s name is Anas bin al-Nadr.
