Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29414

Ali bin Saeed Al-Kindi told us, Abu Muhyah told us, on the authority of Abd al-Malik bin Umair, on the authority of my nephew Abdullah bin Salam, when I want Othman came to Abdullah bin Salam, and Othman said to him, “He did not bring you.” He said, “I came to support you.” He said, “Go out to the people and expel them from me.” It is better for me that you are outside than you are inside. So Abdullah went out to the people and said, “O people, my name in pre-Islamic times was so-and-so, and he called me Messenger.” God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, sent down to me verses from the Book of God: (And a witness from the Children of Israel bore witness to The like of him. But he believed, but you were arrogant. Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.) And it was revealed about me: (Say: Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you and from With Him is knowledge of the Scripture. Indeed, Allah has a sword sheathed over you, and indeed the angels have been close to you in this land of yours in which it was revealed. Your Prophet, by God, by God, in this man. If you kill him, by God, if you kill him, you will expel your neighbors, the angels, and draw the sheathed sword of God. On your behalf, it will not be covered until the Day of Resurrection.
