Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29436

Ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, on the authority of Mujalid, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, he said: Ibn Abbas met Ka’b at Arafat and asked him about something, so he said “Allahu Akbar” until The mountains responded to him, and Ibn Abbas said, “We are Banu Hashim.” Ka’b said, “God divided His vision and His words between Muhammad and Moses.” So he spoke to Moses twice and Muhammad saw him twice. Masruq said, so I went to Aisha and asked, “Has Muhammad seen his Lord?” She said, “You have spoken.” About something that made my hair stand on end. I said slowly, then I read: (He has certainly seen of the great signs of his Lord.) She said, “Where is he taking you? It is only him.” Gabriel, who told you that Muhammad saw his Lord, or concealed something of what he was commanded to do, or knows the five things about which God Almighty said: (Indeed, God With Him is knowledge of the Hour and He sends down rain.) He committed the greatest lie, but he saw Gabriel. He had not seen him in his form except twice, once. At Sidrat al-Munta, and once upon a horse with six hundred wings that blocked the horizon. Abu Issa said, and Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated on the authority of al-Sha’bi On the authority of Masruq, on the authority of Aisha, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, similar to this hadith, and the hadith of Dawud is shorter than the hadith of Mujalid.
