Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29503

Ibn Abi Umar told us, Sufyan bin Uyaynah told us, on the authority of Al-Aswad bin Qays, on the authority of Jundub Al-Bajli, he said, I was with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, in a cave. His finger was bloodied, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Are you anything but a bloody finger? And in the cause of God you have not met.” He said. Gabriel, peace be upon him, delayed his arrival, and the polytheists said, Muhammad has been bid farewell, so God Almighty revealed: (Your Lord has not bid you farewell, nor has He said goodbye). Abu Issa said: This is a hasan and authentic hadith, and it was narrated by Shu’bah and Al-Thawri on the authority of Al-Aswad bin Qays.
