Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29537

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Marhum bin Abdul Aziz Al-Attar narrated to us, Abu Naama narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Uthman Al-Nahdi, on the authority of Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, he said, Muawiyah went out to the mosque and asked, “What makes you sit?” They said, “We sat down to remember God.” He said, “I will not sit you down except That is what they said. By God, we did not sit with anyone but that one. He said, “I do not make you swear on any accusation against you, and no one is of my standing compared to the Messenger of God.” He, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, spoke less about him than I did. The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, went out to a group of his companions and said, “What makes you sit together?” They said, “We sat remembering God and praising Him for having guided us to Islam and for bestowing it on us.” He said, “By God, no one has made you sit except that one.” They said. By God, we did not sit with anyone but that one. He said, “As for me, I did not make you swear because of a charge against you. Indeed, Gabriel came to me and told me that God He boasts about you to the angels.” Abu Issa said, “This is a good and strange hadith. We do not know it except from this narration.” And Abu Naamah al-Saadi His name is Amr bin Issa, and Abu Othman Al-Nahdi's name is Abdul Rahman bin Mull.
