Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29977

Ahmad bin Al-Hasan told us, he said, Musa bin Ismail told us, he said, Abu Awanah told us, he said, Omar bin Abi Salamah bin Abd told us, Al-Rahman, on the authority of his father, said: Usama bin Zaid told me, he said: I was sitting with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, when Ali and Abbas came They asked for permission, and they said, “O Osama, ask permission for us before the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” So I said, “O Messenger of God, Ali and Al-Abbas are asking for permission.” So he said. “Do you know what brought them?” I said, “I do not know.” The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “But I know.” So he gave them permission. So they entered and said, “O Messenger of God, we have come to you to ask you which of your family is most beloved to you.” He said, “Fatima, daughter of Muhammad.” They said, “We have not come to you.” We ask you about your family. He said, “The most beloved of my family to those upon whom God has bestowed favors and upon whom I have bestowed favor is Usama bin Zayd.” They said, then Who said? “Then Ali bin Abi Talib.” Al-Abbas said, “O Messenger of God, you made your uncle the last of them.” He said, “Because Ali preceded you in emigration.” This is a good and authentic hadith. Shu’bah used to weaken Omar bin Abi Salamah.
