Mishkat al-Masabih — Hadith #52223

On the authority of Abu Qatada, he said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, addressed us and said, “You will go on your way during your evening and night, and you will come to water, God willing, tomorrow.” So the people set out, with no one admonishing anyone else. Abu Qatada said, while the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was walking. Until the night fell, he turned away from the road and laid down his head. Then he said, “Guard over us our prayers.” He was the first to wake up, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. He greeted us while the sun was at noon, then he said, “Ride,” and we rode and rode until when the sun rose, he descended, then he called for a flash. There was with me some water in it. He said, so he performed ablution from it without performing ablution. He said, and some water remained in it. Then he said, “Save your water for us.” There will be news for her. Then Bilal called for prayer, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed two rak’ahs, then he prayed the morning prayer and rode off. We rode with him and reached the people when the day extended and everything became hot, and they said, “O Messenger of God, we have perished and we are thirsty.” He said, “No, we have perished.” upon you. He called for the water-pit and started pouring it, and Abu Qatada watered them. No more, when the people saw water in the water-water basin, did they grieve. On it, so the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do well in public, all of you.” It will be narrated. He said, so they did, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, began pouring And I gave them to drink until there was no one left except me and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. Then he poured it and told me to drink. So I said, “I will not drink until you drink, O Messenger of God.” He said, “The one who was drinking the people was the last to drink.” He said, “So I drank and he drank.” He said, “Then the people came to me, pouring some water.” It was narrated by Muslim like this in his Sahih and also in the book of Al-Humaydi and Jami’ Al-Usul, and he added in Al-Masabih after he said, “The last of them is drinking.”
