Sunan ad-Darimi — Hadith #55315

Al-Hakam bin Nafi’ told us, Shuaib told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, Urwa bin Al-Zubair told me, on the authority of Abu Humaid Al-Sa’idi: He told him that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, employed a worker to give charity, and the worker came to him when he had finished his work, and said: O Messenger By God, this is yours, and this is given to me. Then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Would you not sit in the house of your father and mother and see if something will be given to you?” Or not?” Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, got up in the evening after the prayer on the pulpit and took the tashahhud, thanking God and praising Him. Then he said: What is the matter with the worker? We hire him and he comes to us and says: This is your work, and this was given as a gift. For me? Why should he not sit in the house of his father and mother and see whether gifts will be given to him or not? By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, none of you will take anything from it unless he comes. On the Day of Resurrection, he will carry it on his neck. If it is a camel, he will bring it moaning, and if it is a cow, he will bring it bellowing. It was a sheep. A camel brought with it. Have you reached puberty? ".
