Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27666

Ali bin Hajar told us, Ismail bin Ibrahim told us, on the authority of Dawud bin Abi Hind, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, on the authority of Al-Bara’ bin Azib, he said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, addressed us on the Day of Sacrifice and said, “None of you should slaughter until he has prayed.” Then my uncle stood up and said, “O Messenger.” By God, this is a day on which meat is detestable, and I hastened my sacrifice in order to feed my family and my household or my neighbors. He said, “Prepare another slaughter.” He said, “O Messenger of God, I have a she-camel of milk, and it is better than a meat sheep. Should I slaughter it?” He said, “Yes, and it is the best of your meat, and it is not sufficient.” A stump for someone after you.” He said, “And on the authority of Jabir, Jundub, Anas, Uwaimir bin Ashqar, Ibn Umar, and Abu Zaid Al-Ansari.” Abu Issa said: This is a hasan and authentic hadith. The action on this, according to most people of knowledge, is to not sacrifice a piece of meat until the imam has prayed. A group of scholars has given permission to the people of the villages to slaughter when dawn breaks, and this is the statement of Ibn al-Mubarak. Abu Issa said: The people of knowledge are unanimously agreed that the trunk of goats is not sufficient, and they said that the trunk of sheep is only acceptable.
