Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29830

Ishaq bin Musa Al-Ansari told us, he said, Maan told us, he said, Malik bin Anas told us, on the authority of Hisham bin Urwa, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Aisha, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” Then Aisha said, “O Messenger of God, when Abu Bakr gets up, In your position, the people did not hear the crying, so he ordered Omar to lead the people in prayer. She said, so he said, “Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.” She said Aisha, so I said to Hafsa: Tell him that if Abu Bakr takes your place, he will not make the people hear your crying, so order Omar to lead the people in prayer. So Hafsa did so, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Indeed, you are Joseph’s companions. Tell Abu Bakr so that he may lead the people in prayer.” So Hafsa said, I would not have achieved anything better for Aisha than you. Abu Issa said: This is a hasan and authentic hadith. And on the authority of Abdullah bin Masoud. And Abu Musa, Ibn Abbas, Salim bin Ubaid, and Abdullah bin Zamaa.
