Sunan ad-Darimi — Hadith #54519

Ya'la and Ahmad ibn Khalid informed us, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ishaq, on the authority of Asim ibn Umar ibn Qatada, on the authority of Mahmoud ibn Labid, on the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah said: While we were with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, a man came with something like an egg made of gold. So he turned away from it, then he came to him from his left corner, and said like that, then he came to him from in front of him, and he said like that, then he said: "Bring her", He got angry, so he deleted it with it, saying that if it had hit him, it would have hurt him or disturbed him. Then he said: “One of you goes to his wealth and no one else owns it, so he gives in charity.” With it, then he sits begging the people. Charity is only on the back of wealth. Take what you have, we have no need of it.” So the man took his money and left. He said Abu Muhammad: Malik used to say: If a man gives his money to the poor, he should give in charity a third of his money.
