Muhammad ibn Bashar told us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, saying: Azrah ibn Thabit told us, on the authority of Thumamah ibn Abd Allah, who said: Anas ibn Malik never refused perfume, and Anas said: The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, never refused perfume.

Qutaybah ibn Sa’id told us: Ibn Abi Fudayk told us, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Muslim ibn Jundub, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Three things should not be refused: pillows, oil, and milk.”

Mahmud ibn Ghaylan narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud al-Hafari narrated to us, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of al-Jurayri, on the authority of Abu Nadrah, on the authority of a man, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best perfume for men is that whose scent is apparent but whose color is subtle, and the best perfume for women is that whose color is apparent but whose scent is subtle.” Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us, saying: He informed us… Isma`il ibn Ibrahim, on the authority of al-Jurayri, on the authority of Abu Nadrah, on the authority of al-Tufawi, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, with the same meaning.

Muhammad ibn Khalifa and Amr ibn Ali told us: Yazid ibn Zuray’ told us: Hajjaj al-Sawwaf told us, on the authority of Hanan, on the authority of Abu Uthman al-Nahdi, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: If one of you is given basil, he should not refuse it, for it came from Paradise.

Omar bin Ismail bin Mujalid bin Saeed Al-Hamdani told us, my father told me, on the authority of Bayan, on the authority of Qais bin Abi Hazim, on the authority of Jarir bin Abdullah, who said: I was presented before Omar bin Al-Khattab, and Jarir threw off his cloak and walked in a loincloth. He said to him: Take your cloak. He said to the people: I have not seen a man with a more beautiful appearance than Jarir, except for what has reached us of the appearance of Joseph, peace be upon him.

"Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'Men's perfume is perfume whose scent is apparent and whose color is not, and women's perfume is perfume whose color is apparent and whose scent is not'.”
