Ali ibn Hujr told us: Sharik told us, on the authority of al-Miqdam ibn Shurayh, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Aisha, who said: It was said to her: Did the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, ever recite poetry? She said: He used to recite the poetry of Ibn Rawahah, and he would recite his saying: He will bring you news from one whom you did not provide with provisions.

Muhammad ibn Bashar told us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, saying: Sufyan al-Thawri told us, on the authority of Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, saying: Abu Salamah told us, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The truest statement a poet ever made was the statement of Labid: ‘Verily, everything besides Allah is falsehood.’ And Umayyah almost Ibn Abi al-Salt wanted to convert to Islam.

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us, on the authority of al-Aswad ibn Qays, on the authority of Jundub ibn Sufyan al-Bajali, who said: A stone struck the finger of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), causing it to bleed. He said: "Are you but a finger that bled, and what you have suffered is in the cause of Allah?" Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us, saying: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah, on the authority of al-Aswad ibn Qays, on the authority of Jundub ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, narrated something similar.

Muhammad ibn Bashar told us, saying: Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, saying: Sufyan al-Thawri told us, saying: Abu Ishaq informed us, on the authority of al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, who said: A man said to him: "Did you flee from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), O Abu 'Umarah?" He replied: "No, by Allah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not turn away, but rather the people who fled did so quickly, and the Hawazin tribe met them." With arrows, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was on his mule, and Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith bin Abdul-Muttalib was holding its reins, and the Messenger of God was saying: I am the Prophet, there is no lie in that, I am the son of Abdul-Muttalib.

Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to us, saying: 'Abd ar-Razzaq narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: Thabit narrated to us, on the authority of Anas: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered Mecca during the Lesser Pilgrimage (Umrah) of Qada', and Ibn Rawahah was walking in front of him, and he was saying: "Leave the disbelievers alone today, for we will strike you for its revelation with a blow that will sever heads." He was resting and distracting his friend from his friend. Umar said to him: O Ibn Rawaha, in the presence of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and in the sanctuary of God you recite poetry. So he, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: Leave him alone, O Umar, for it is faster among them than the spray of arrows.

Ali ibn Hujr told us: Sharik told us, on the authority of Simak ibn Harb, on the authority of Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: I sat with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, more than one hundred times, and his companions would recite poetry to one another and discuss matters from the pre-Islamic era, while he remained silent and sometimes smiled with them.

Ali ibn Hujr told us, saying: Sharik told us, on the authority of Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, on the authority of Abu Salamah, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said: The most eloquent statement ever uttered by the Arabs is the statement of Labid: “Verily, everything besides God is falsehood.”

Ahmad ibn Mani’ told us, saying: Marwan ibn Mu’awiyah told us, on the authority of Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Ta’ifi, on the authority of Amr ibn al-Sharid, on the authority of his father, who said: I was riding behind the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and I recited to him one hundred verses from the poetry of Umayyah ibn Abi al-Salt al-Thaqafi. Every time I recited a verse, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, would say to me: “Go on,” until I had recited one hundred. Meaning a house, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: He almost became a Muslim.

Isma`il ibn Musa al-Fazari and `Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us, and the meaning is the same, saying: `Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi al-Zinad narrated to us, on the authority of Hisham ibn `Urwah, on the authority of his father, on the authority of `A`ishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would place a pulpit for Hassan ibn Thabit in the mosque, and he would stand upon it, boasting on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or he said: defending on behalf of The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah supports Hassan with the Holy Spirit, so that he may defend or boast on behalf of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).” Isma’il ibn Musa and Ali ibn Hujr narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Zinad narrated to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Urwah, on the authority of Aisha, on the authority of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a similar narration.

“A stone hit the finger of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), causing it to bleed, so he said [in poetic verse]: 'Are you nothing but a finger that has bled without having suffered in Allah’s cause?'”

"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to set up a pulpit in the mosque for Hassan ibn Thabit. He would stand upright upon it, paying tribute to Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)’ or: ‘defending Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).’ He would say (Allah bless him and give him peace): “Allah (Exalted is He) supports Hassan with the Spirit of Holiness, when he defends or pays tribute to Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)!'”
