Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #26556

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Muhammad bin Khalid bin Uthma Al-Basri narrated to us, Ibrahim bin Saad narrated to us, he said Muhammad bin narrated to me Ishaq, on the authority of Makhul, on the authority of Kurayb, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, he said, I heard the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying, “If One of you made a mistake in his prayer and did not know whether to pray one or two times, so let him build on one. If he did not know how to pray two or three, let him start on one. Two, and if he does not know how to pray three or four, then let him build on three and prostrate two prostrations before he says the salutation.” Abu Issa said. This is a hasan and authentic hadith. This hadith was narrated on the authority of Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf through another route. It was narrated by al-Zuhri on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abdullah bin Utba, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Awf, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
