Hadith #28185
Ahmad bin Mani’ told us, Yazid bin Harun told us, on the authority of Abu Ghassan, Muhammad bin Mutrif, on the authority of Hassan bin Atiya, on the authority of Abu Umamah, On the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, he said: “Modesty and shame are two branches of faith, and obscenity and eloquence are two branches of hypocrisy.” He said Abu Issa, this is a good and strange hadith. We only know it from the hadith of Abu Ghassan Muhammad ibn Mutarrif. He said: “The curse is lack of speech and obscenity.” It is obscenity in speech, and rhetoric is excessive speech, like these preachers who give sermons and expand their speech. And they exaggerate in praising people for things that do not please God.
