Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28510

Abd al-Ala bin Wasil al-Kufi narrated to us, Thabit bin Muhammad al-Abid al-Kufi narrated to us, Al-Harith bin al-Nu’man al-Laythi narrated to us, on the authority of Anas, that The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “O God, give me life as a poor person, and cause me to die as a poor person, and gather me in the group of the poor.” On the Day of Resurrection. Then Aisha said: Why, O Messenger of God, did he say? They will enter Paradise forty autumns before their rich ones. O Aisha, do not refuse the poor, even with half a date. O Aisha, love the poor and be near to them, for God will bring you near on the Day of Resurrection.” Abu Issa said: This is a strange hadith.
