Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29074

Abd al-Wahhab bin al-Hakam al-Warraq al-Baghdadi told us, he said: Abd al-Majid bin Abd al-Aziz told us, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, on the authority of al-Muttalib Ibn Abdullah Ibn Hantab, on the authority of Anas Ibn Malik, said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “The rewards of my nation have been presented to me until The speck is taken out by a man from the mosque. The sins of my nation were presented to me, and I have not seen a sin greater than a chapter of the Qur’an or a verse given to a man. Then he forgot it.” Abu Issa said, “This is a strange hadith. We do not know it except from this perspective.” He said, “I reminded Muhammad ibn Ismail of it.” He did not recognize him and was surprised by him. Muhammad said, “I do not know whether Al-Muttalib Ibn Abdullah Ibn Hantab heard from any of the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.” Except for his saying: Someone who witnessed the sermon of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, told me.
