Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29126

Abdullah bin Humayd told us, Ubayd Allah bin Musa told us, on the authority of Israel bin Yunus, on the authority of Abu Ishaq, on the authority of Al-Bara’, he said: They were the companions of the Prophet May God’s prayers and peace be upon him: If a man is fasting and prepares to break his fast, then he sleeps before breaking his fast and does not eat all night or day until evening. And Qais bin Sarmah Al-Ansari was fasting, and when breakfast came to him, he went to his wife and said, “Do you have food?” She said, “No, but go.” So I ask you. And while he was working that day, his eyesight overcame him, and his wife came to him and when she saw him, she said, “What a disappointment to you.” So when he finished, During the day he fainted, so he mentioned that to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and this verse was revealed: (It is lawful for you on the night of fasting to have sexual intercourse with your wives) so they rejoiced. He rejoiced greatly over it: (So eat and drink until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread) Abu Issa said: This is a good and authentic hadith.
