Hadis Sambhar — Hadith #38093

On the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, he said: Omar used to bring me in with the sheikhs of Badr, and it was as if some of them found it within themselves and said: Why did this person enter with us? We have sons like him, and Omar said: This is from where you learned. So he called me one day and let me in with them. I did not see that he called me that day except to show them. He said: What do you say about God’s saying: When God’s victory and conquest come? Some of them said: We are commanded to praise God and ask His forgiveness when we are given victory and conquest. And some of them remained silent. فَلَمْ يَقُلْ شَيئاً فَقَالَ لي : أَكَذلِكَ تقُولُ يَا ابنَ عباسٍ ؟ فقلت : لا قَالَ : فَمَا تَقُولُ ؟ قُلْتُ : هُوَ أجَلُ رَسُولِ الله صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ And the most learned man greeted him. He said, “When God’s victory and conquest come, and that is a sign of your death, glorify the praises of your Lord and ask for His forgiveness, for he was in repentance,” and he said.
