Mishkatul Masabih — Hadith #40127

At night, when the Messenger of Allah, may God bless him and grant him peace, stood up for prayer, he would first recite this dua saying Allahu Akbar, "Subha-Naka All-Humma Wabi Hamdika, Wataba-Raqasmuqa Wata'ala-Jadduka, Wala-Ila-ha Goyruka". That is, "Oh God! I declare your holiness. We praise you. Blessed is your name. Your status is very high. There is no God but You.'' Then he used to say, "A'Uzu billah-His Sami'ul 'Aleem, Minash Shayat-Nir Razim, Min Hamzihi, Wa Nafkhihi Wa Nafsih. (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i; In the narration of Imam Abu Dawud, there is this word after ``Gayruka'', then he used to say, ``La-Ila-Ha Illal-H'' three times. And the words at the end of the hadith are: He (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) recited ``A'Uzu billah-His Sami'il 'Aleem'') and then started reciting Qira'at (Qira'at).[1]
