Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27601

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Muhammad bin Ja’far narrated to us, Shu’bah narrated to us, he said: I heard Qatada, narrating on the authority of Anas, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, that A man was brought who had drunk alcohol, and he hit him with two pieces of straw, about forty, and Abu Bakr did that. When Omar was gone, he consulted The people, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf said, “The hadith of Anas is a good and authentic hadith.” The ruling on this according to the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and others, is that the limit for drunkenness is eighty.
