Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27614

Muhammad ibn Amr al-Siwaq told us, Abd al-Aziz ibn Muhammad told us, on the authority of Amr ibn Abi Amr, on the authority of Ikrimah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Whoever you find doing the actions of the people of Lot, kill the agent and the object.” He said, in the section On the authority of Jabir and Abu Hurairah. Abu Issa said: This hadith is only known on the authority of Ibn Abbas, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, through this route, and he narrated Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrates this hadith on the authority of Amr ibn Abi Amr. He said, “Cursed is he who does the actions of the people of Lot.” He was not mentioned in it. Murder, and it was mentioned about it: Cursed is he who has sexual intercourse with an animal. This hadith was narrated on the authority of Asim ibn Umar, on the authority of Suhail ibn Abi Salih, on the authority of his father. On the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, he said: “Kill the subject and the object.” Abu Issa said: This is a hadith in its chain of transmission. We do not know of anyone who narrated it on the authority of Suhail bin Abi Salih other than Asim bin Omar Al-Amri. And Asim bin Omar is weakened in the hadith due to his memorization. The people of knowledge differed regarding the punishment for sodomy, and some of them thought that he should be stoned whether he was married or not, and this is the opinion of Malik. Al-Shafi’i, Ahmad, and Ishaq. Some of the people of knowledge, including the Tabi’een jurists, including Al-Hasan Al-Basri, Ibrahim Al-Nakhai, and Ata’ said: Ibn Abi Rabah and others said that the punishment for sodomy is the punishment for an adulterer, and this is the opinion of Al-Thawri and the people of Kufa.
