Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27681

Ahmad bin Al-Hakam Al-Basri narrated to us, Muhammad bin Jafar narrated to us, on the authority of Shu’bah, on the authority of Malik bin Anas, on the authority of Amr, or Omar bin Muslim On the authority of Sa`id ibn al-Musayyab, on the authority of Umm Salamah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, who said: “Whoever sees the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah and wants to offer a sacrifice, let him They will take neither his hair nor his nails.” Abu Issa said: This is a good and authentic hadith. The hadith was narrated by Ahmad and Ishaq. Some of the people of knowledge gave permission for that and said that there is no harm in cutting some of his hair and nails. This is the opinion of Al-Shafi’i He used as evidence the hadith of Aisha that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to send gifts from Medina, but he would not avoid anything that a muhrim would avoid.
