Qutaibah narrated to us, he said, Al-Layth narrated to us, on the authority of Muawiyah bin Salih, on the authority of Abdullah bin Abi Qais, he is a Basri man who said, “I asked Aisha, on the authority of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, how he used to perform the Witr prayer at the beginning of the night or at the end of it. She said all of that. He used to perform the Witr prayer, perhaps. At the beginning of the night, and perhaps at the end of the night. So I said: Praise be to God who has made the matter spacious. So I said: How was its recitation? Was it easy? By reciting or out loud. She said, “All of that was what he did.” Maybe he recited quietly, and maybe he said out loud. So I said, “Praise be to God who made There is a lot of detail in the matter. He said, “I said, ‘So what did he do when he was in ritual impurity? Did he bathe before he slept or sleep before he took a bath?’ She said all of that.” He used to do that, and perhaps he took a bath and slept, or perhaps he performed ablution and slept. I said, Praise be to God, who has made the matter easy. Abu Issa said this. It is a good and strange hadith from this perspective.
