Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29217

Al-Hasan bin Ahmad bin Abi Shuaib Al-Harrani narrated to us, Muhammad bin Salamah Al-Harrani narrated to us, Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Al-Nadr, On the authority of Badhan, the freed slave of Umm Hani, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, on the authority of Tamim al-Dari, in this verse: (O you who have believed, the testimony (Among you when death approaches one of you.) He said, “The people were absolved from it except me and Adi bin Badda’, and they were Christians who went to Syria to go to the Levant.” Before Islam, they came to the Levant for their trade, and a master of Banu Sahm, called Badil bin Abi Maryam, came over them for trade. He had with him a bowl of silver that he wanted for the king, and it was the greatness of his trade. Then he fell ill, so he advised them and ordered them to report what he had left behind. He said: Tamim, and when he died, we took that bowl and sold it for a thousand dirhams, then I and Adi bin Badda divided it, so when we came to its family We gave them what we had with us, and they lost the bowl, so they asked us about it, and we said: He left nothing but this, and he did not give us anything else. Tamim said, “So when I converted to Islam.” After the arrival of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, Medina was saddened by that, so I went to its people and told them the news and performed They got five hundred dirhams, and I told them that my friend had something like that. So they brought it to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he asked them for evidence, but they did not find it. So he commanded them to make him swear by something that would be venerated above his people of religion. So he swore, and God revealed: (O you who have believed, the testimony among you when death approaches one of you) until he said: (or they fear that oaths after their oaths will be rejected). Then Amr ibn Al-Aas and another man swore, and the five hundred dirhams were taken from Adi bin Badda. Abu Issa said: This is a strange hadith and its chain of transmission is not Sahih. Abu al-Nadr, from whom Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated this hadith, is to me Muhammad ibn al-Sa’ib al-Kalbi, nicknamed Abu An-Nadr was abandoned by the people of hadith, and he is the author of the interpretation. I heard Muhammad ibn Ismail say: Muhammad ibn al-Sa’ib al-Kalbi is nicknamed Abu Al-Nadr.
