Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29365

Ali bin Hajar told us, Dawud bin Al-Zabarqan told us, on the authority of Dawud bin Abi Hind, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, on the authority of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was concealing some of the revelation, so he concealed this verse: (When you said to him whom God had bestowed upon him) meaning With Islam: (And You bestowed upon him) With emancipation, so she freed him: (Keep your husband on your own and fear God, and hide within yourself what God And you fear the people, and God is more deserving that you fear Him) to his saying: (And the command of God is carried out) and that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace When he married her, they said, “He married Halila, his son.” Then God Almighty revealed: (Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but the Messenger of God. And the Seal of the Prophets) and the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, adopted him when he was young, and he remained there until he became a man called Zayd bin Muhammad. So God revealed: (Call them after their fathers. This is fairer with God. If you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your friends.) So-and-so The master of so-and-so and so-and-so is the brother of so-and-so (he is more just in the sight of God), meaning he is more just in the sight of God. Abu Issa said: This is a strange hadith. It was narrated on the authority of Dawud ibn Abi Hind, on the authority of Al-Sha’bi, on the authority of Masruq, on the authority of Aisha, who said, “If the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, had concealed any of the revelation, he would have concealed it.” This verse: (When you said to the one upon whom God has bestowed favour, and upon whom you have bestowed favour) This verse is not narrated in its length. Abdullah bin Waddah Al-Kufi narrated that to us. Abdullah bin Idris narrated to us on the authority of Dawud bin Abi Hind.
