Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29390

Mahmoud bin Ghaylan and Abd bin Humayd told us - the meaning is the same. They said: Abu Ahmad told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Al-A’mash, on the authority of Yahya, Abd, who is Ibn Abbad, said, on the authority of Saeed bin Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, he said: Abu Talib fell ill, so the Quraysh came to him, and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, came to him. He greeted Abu Talib and a man was sitting with him, so Abu Jahl stood up to prevent him. They complained to Abu Talib and he said, “O my nephew, what do you want from your people?” He said, “I want one word from them that the Arabs will owe them and the non-Arabs will pay tribute to them.” He said one word, he said. “One word.” He said, “O uncle, say there is no god but Allah.” They said, “One God?” (We have not heard of this in the religion. Hereafter, this is nothing but a fabrication.) He said, “Then the Qur’an was revealed about them: (PBUH* And the Qur’an is the Remembrance. * Rather, those who disbelieve are in pride and discord.) To His saying: (We have not heard of this in the afterlife. This is nothing but fabrication.) Abu Issa said this is a good and authentic hadith. Yahya bin Saeed narrated, on the authority of Sufyan, on the authority of Al-Amash, similar to this hadith, and Yahya bin Amara said: Bundar told us, Yahya told us Bin Saeed, on the authority of Sufyan, similar to it, on the authority of Al-A’mash.
